JOB OPENING: HABITAT COORDINATOR
Date:  October 8, 2007
Filing deadline: Open until filled

HOURLY POSITION:  Forty hour week.  Twelve months per year.

MISSION STATEMENT:
Friends of Shipley Nature Center is a non-profit organization formed to manage the Nature Center as an ecological sanctuary for California native plants and wildlife and to provide environmental education in an urban setting in partnership with the City of Huntington Beach, the local community, and the wider world.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • High school degree or higher
  • A minimum of one year experience related to maintenance of native plants
  • Ability to work with volunteers and contracted vendors (prefer supervisory experience)
  • Knowledge of invasive and native plants of the area
  • Willingness to work outdoors
  • CPR certified or obtained during probationary period
  • Minor mechanical and repair skills
  • Be able to lift seventy pounds
  • Adhere to established and standard emergency and operational procedures
  • Have a background check

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:

  • Three month probationary period
  • After completion of required number of days worked the following holidays are provided--New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day
  • After six months, five sick leave days are provided
  • After twelve months, five vacation days are provided
  • Payroll is two times per month and enrolling with the pay agency is required
  • Medical insurance is NOT provided
